This exploded view of a Cessna 180 landing gear box shows the position of the Outboard Landing Gear Bracket, the Inner Angle Bracket, and the P. Ponk Beef Up Kit Bracket.

On the stock airplane the end of the landing gear leg is inserted through the slot in the Outboard Bracket and rests on top of, and is bolted to, the inner angle bracket. When installed, the P. Ponk Beef Up Bracket is bolted to the side of the inboard gear box bulkhead just above the Angle Bracket. The gear leg is then held in place with a bolt that extends through the Beef Up Bracket, the gear leg, and the Angle Bracket. The Beef Up Kit doubles the shear load strength and triples the side load strength of the landing gear box.

The integrity of the brackets is critical as they carry the majority of the aircraft's weight and the forces exerted during takeoff and landing. Inspection for corrosion of these parts should be performed during the annual inspection.

In addition to producing the Landing Gear Beef Up Kit P. Ponk Aviation manufacturers replacement Outboard Landing Gear Brackets and Inner Angle Brackets. All of our brackets are individually milled from high strength, cold rolled aluminum block. P. Ponk's brackets are heaver (thicker), stronger, and more corrosion resistant than the extruded brackets installed at the factory.
